Do I Need A Lifejacket When Paddle Boarding?
One of the questions I get asked quite often is ‘Do I have to wear a lifejacket when paddle boarding?’ It’s a valid question, as it’s not always easy to get a clear answer because the answer depends on a couple of factors. Firstly, your location. In Australia, lifejacket laws differ from state to state. Currently, paddlers in New South Wales and Victoria do not need to wear a lifejacket while stand-up paddle boarding.

Paddle further in 2020
Have you been looking to set yourself a SUP challenge for 2020? Want to start paddling some longer distances? Then you may be interested in joining us as we train for the She SUPs 3 Bridges Expedition! The She SUPs 3 Bridges Expedition will be held on Sunday 26th April 2020 and will involve an 11km (one-way*) paddle from Northbridge (Cammeray), via the Spit Bridge to Roseville Bridge.
Sparked your interest but thinking, how on earth am I going to manage 11km in one-go!!? If the most you have paddled is around Narrabeen Lakes, it is certainly wise to build up to 11km so to assist in your training for this event, we will be running The Distance Series. A series of small group paddles (BYO or SUP hire available) to help you build up distance over the next couple of months.

Meet-Up/SUP Social Fees in 2020
Over Christmas, I was thinking about how we could bring the kind of experiences and opportunities many of you have experienced through She SUPs to women who are perhaps in more vulnerable situations. Therefore I have slightly increased the SUP Socials & MeetUp fee/contribution to allow She SUPs to offer free SUP sessions to women and children supported by Women's Shelters and disability charities. Check out this blog for more info!

The magic of paddle boarding at sunrise
If you know me, you’ll know I am an early riser and a fan of a sunrise. Whether it’s a walk at sunrise, a SUP at sunrise or simply just sat on some rocks watching the sunrise over the ocean. Every morning mother nature gifts us with this beautiful natural light show bursting with energy, awakening us to the present moment and reminding us to be grateful for this wonderful planet we live on.
For those that refer to themselves as ‘not a morning person’, I thought I’d attempt to capture, in this blog post, some of the magic of paddleboarding at sunrise with the hope that one day, you may be intrigued to see what all the fuss is about. It normally goes a little something like this…

Be the change you wish to see
What’s interesting in all of these examples though is that there are no actual physical barriers here. Yes I may receive some sexist comments questioning my strength but no one is saying ‘you can’t do this because you’re a woman’. So what’s stopping me (and according to a ton of research out there, many other women and girls)?

"Do one thing you think you cannot do"
It is the 5th August 2019 and I have officially launched She SUPs into the world.
I feel like this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt is appropriate for my first blog and instagram post as it captures how I have felt over the past couple of months as I quit my job and set off on a path (to create She SUPs) that had always been a dream and had never quite found it’s way into reality…
