SUP Technique for Longer Distances

If you’ve had a couple of SUP Confidence Lessons or taught yourself to SUP but you’re ready to be more efficient with your stroke and start paddling further, this session is for you.

ABOUT THIS LESSON

SUP Technique for Longer Distances is for paddlers who have paddled with She SUPs before or perhaps have been paddling solo for a while, but want to look a little closer at technique, understanding the environment, and improving their paddle efficiency.

In this lesson we will likely paddle 3km but will teach you techniques to help you paddle up to 10km comfortably.

As an example, we aim to cover:

  • A detailed look at the 5 phases of the paddle stroke

  • More efficient turning techniques such as the cross bow rudder and cross bow turn

  • How to paddle on one side and still paddle in a straight line!

  • Increasing your paddle fitness and stamina

  • Increasing your paddle efficiency (go further with less effort)

  • Balance drills

  • Understanding the difference between touring and recreational paddling

  • Individual 1:1 technique analysis

COST

1.5 Hour Technique Lesson + BYO SUP: $90

1.5 Hour Technique Lesson + SUP HIRE: $115

ABILITY LEVEL

Suitable for beginners who can comfortably stand-up on a paddle board for 45 mins - 1 hour. We will have breaks during this session where you can come down onto your knees to rest your legs/feet, however technique is best learnt from a standing position so we will be standing for the majority of the class. We recommend that if you haven’t paddled before, you take a lesson first before this session. Click here to check out our SUP Confidence lessons.

WEATHER

The She SUPs team will be in touch with you via SMS if the weather (in particular wind) conditions look unsafe to paddle and we will arrange to reschedule the paddle or provide a refund. Please assume we are proceeding as normal if you don't hear from us, and trust that we will never run a paddle if it's unsafe to do so. Often generalist forecasts like Apple and Google forecasts are not accurate enough for paddling, so your instructor will be analysing more in-depth weather charts to decide whether to proceed.

MEETING POINT

These lessons are run from Tunks Park, Cammeray which enables us to explore Sydney’s beautiful Middle Harbour. Details about meeting point and what to wear/bring are shared once you have booked in for this lesson.
