"Do one thing you think you cannot do"

It is the 5th August 2019 and I have officially launched She SUPs into the world.

I feel like this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt is appropriate for my first blog and Instagram post as it captures how I have felt over the past couple of months as I quit my job and set off on a path (to create She SUPs) that had always been a dream and had never quite found it’s way into reality.

Do one thing you think you cannot do” - Eleanor Roosevelt

Interestingly though, there was one part of me that did believe it was possible, and that is my gut. So often we are torn between our sensible head versus our heart or gut, but I like to think that going with your gut or heart, you will be driven by a passion so deep it is certain to lead you down a path in which you will grow, learn and hopefully thrive (I’ll keep you posted on whether that becomes true for me!).

The idea for She SUPs initially came from a place of frustration and anger. I was fed up of being patronised by male instructors in outdoor activity sessions or communities, and I was angered even more so when I witnessed other women stereotyped or put in a box by men in these industries because of their age, gender or body shape. However, the idea has since morphed into one of hope and excitement as I have come to learn that women over the age of 45 are the largest growing group interested in stand-up-paddle boarding and I have met lots of women and girls of all ages seeking out networks and communities to embark on adventurous activities together.

My hope for She SUPs is that it becomes a safe environment to inspire women and girls to take to the water (perhaps in one of our She SUPs Social’s or She SUPs lessons and tours), climb that mountain they have always dreamt of or simply spend more time outside and not feel intimidated by others just because of their gender. I hope that She SUPs will become a strong community of like-minded individuals where lifelong friendships and tales of great adventures are made.

Thank you for visiting shesups.com.au and being part of this journey! If you’re interested in hearing more about She SUPs please subscribe to our emails or contact me directly here and of course follow our social channels (@shesups_).

Happy paddling!
