The Perfect Winter SUP Pants

I have been on the hunt for the perfect winter SUP pants for a while, something that will keep you warm while stand-up paddle boarding even when they get a little wet.
I first came across Sharkskin when I was a kayaker and owned some of their thermal shorts and top to keep me warm during the Massive Murray Marathon Kayak Race. The Sharkskin technology kept me warm, comfortable and feeling fresh for 8 hours of paddling a day, for 5 days straight and in all conditions from glorious sunshine to hail and thunderstorms!
So when I discovered that they had two types of thermal long pants suitable for SUP, I simply had to test them out… and now, I don’t wear anything else!!

Both styles of pants feature Sharkskin’s proprietary Chillproof fabric and are designed for women (finally, a pair of paddling pants WITHOUT lots of extra fabric around the crotch!)
Having tested out both styles, I couldn’t decide which I preferred so thought I’d bring you both!!

The Women’s Thermal SUP Pants (“The full leg thermal ones - ideal for those who feel the cold!”)

If you feel the cold and want something super cosy for winter - these fellas are for you. These pants use a Chillproof/Neoprene hybrid design to provide maximum fit, warmth and mobility for paddleboarders as well as 100% sun protection for your legs. SHARKSKIN’s proprietary Chillproof fabric runs down the full length of the legs and crotch offering 100% wind resistance, breathability and thermal protection. Around your bottom, the fabric is Neoprene providing a little extra stretch for a more comfortable fit, plus the high rear waist provides comfort and warmth to your back even when moving from standing to kneeling.

I choose to wear these pants for all sunrise and early morning paddles. I have tested these leggings in temperatures as low as 8 degrees celsius and still remained warm! Wearing them in the sun later on in the day, I got pretty warm, which is where the LITE Long Pants come in…

The LITE Thermal Pants once again feature SHARKSKIN’s proprietary Chillproof fabric for wind and thermal protection however this time only in the crotch and upper thighs. The rest of the leg (from knee down) is made up of ‘liquid titanium’ compression fabric for “extra endurance and muscle recovery” - as well as a super comfy fit and 100% sun protection (full SPF50+). Once again these pants have a lightweight stretch Neoprene around the bottom area and mid-cut waist design.
Ignore the fact these were put on a male mannequin… I guarantee they are woman’s fit… no baggy fabric around the front!!
My thighs aren’t as muscular as this male mannequin’s (!!) so I found these pants weren’t as tight as they look in this photo. They fit similar to a standard sports legging.
These pants have been ideal for sunny winter days where I haven’t needed so much thermal protection, but still want to stay warm when the sun goes in. It’s amazing how having a thermal layer around your upper thighs and crotch can make such a huge difference to your overall warmth - I have felt way warmer than when wearing normal active wear leggings.

How the pre-sale works:
Order your pants anytime between Monday 15th June and Monday 29th June via She SUPs.
On Monday 29th June all orders will go to Sharkskin to be pulled together and you’ll receive your pants a week later.
How do they fit? What’s the sizing like?
The Women’s Thermal SUP Pants come in sizes 6 - 22 and the LITE Thermal Pants come in sizes 6 - 16.
I have found that these pants come pretty much ‘to size’. I typically wear an AUS 8 on top and AUS 10 on the bottom, and for both the Women’s Thermal SUP Pants and LITE Thermal Pants I wear a 10.

What if I order the wrong size?
If you are unsure about sizing or think you may be between two sizes, I recommend ordering both sizes and you can always return the second and get a full refund (minus postage).
Will they still be available after the pre-sale?
Yes! She SUPs will continue our relationship with Sharkskin and may have a few more surprises up our sleeve for later on in the year. These pants will be available to order for the rest of the year, but the price will return closer to RRP.
I am very passionate about only bringing SUP Gear to the She SUPs Community that I whole heartedly endorse and believe in, and these pants are one of those items. I can’t wait to keep paddling with you all through winter!!
