Let’s ‘Do It In A Dress’ this IWD!
It is International Women’s Day (IWD) on Monday 8th March and this year we have decided to leverage the power of our Australia-wide She SUPs Community to call out inequality and in the spirit of this year’s IWD theme, ‘Choose to Challenge’ the fact that 130 MILLION girls around the world are denied an education.
It’s not okay with us that a girl in Sierra Leone is more likely to be married before the age of 18 than she is to finish high school – and only 16% of girls ever complete high school. But we CAN do something about it.
Therefore for the month of March, we invite you (any paddler, of any gender, anywhere in the world) to join She SUPs and ‘Do It In A Dress’ (paddle in a dress) to raise money for One Girl and support girl’s education.
How do I get involved?
Taking part in this initiative is SUPER easy!
Find yourself an old school dress or other dress
Grab some friends and plan a paddle
Head out on your paddle wearing your school dress and take lots of pics tagging @shesups_ and @onegirlorg if posting on Instagram
Donate or encourage friends to donate any amount you can to our She SUPs Community fundraising page.
Why raise funds for girls education? And why One Girl as a charity?
More than 130 million girls around the world are denied an education simply because they were born a girl.
Sierra Leone and Uganda are some of the most challenging places in the world to be born a girl: almost 50% of female youth in Sierra Leone are illiterate, up to 40% of girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda are forced into child marriage and 3 in 5 girls in Sierra Leone don’t attend school.
A girl born in Sierra Leone is more likely to be sexually assaulted than she is to attend high school
14 million girls across the world under the age of 18 will be forced into marriage this year
In sub-Saharan Africa only 1 in 5 girls will make it to high school
Educating girls is a tangible and powerful way to tackle climate change and create a better world for everyone (find out more HERE)
How much should I donate or fundraise?
As much as you wish! We recognise that times are tough for everyone this year, so any donation big or small is valued.
No matter how big or small your contribution, collectively we can make a difference.
And don’t forget to mention it to family members, colleagues and employers who may wish to sponsor you too!
We have created one central fundraising page for the whole of the She SUPs Community, so if you’d like to send it to friends/family/colleagues please share this link: https://www.onegirl.org.au/fundraisers/shesupsinadress

More about the IWD 2021 campaign theme: #ChooseToChallenge
“A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.” - (IWD, 2021)
